During a holiday is about the only time I really get to enjoy reading a book. I managed three this time!
Seven Days in the Art World- a kind of fact-book recounting seven days spent in different disciplines of the art world by a journalist/sociologist. Particularly liked the auction house section and the art fair one too.
Pure- Brilliant historic fiction novel about the destruction of a church and cemetery in 1785 Paris. It is all centred around the engineer in charge of the operation John-Baptiste Barrat. It immediately reminded me of my trip to the catacombs in Paris. Turns out the bones from the cemetery in the story did actually end up there.
I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith- 1949 classic and I completely loved it. Romance, poverty, family life, amibition. My favourite of the holiday.
